Kirkby Classic Prize Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their Annual Kirkby Classic Prize Show and Sale of store and potential show cattle when 584 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £5800 was the Overall Champion, a 10 month old Limousin cross heifer which was sired by Hightown Jako from Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown, Haltwhistle which was bought by A. Ewing, Annan on behalf of a customer.

Our judge Mr Alistair Twell, Kettering, Northants awarded the overall Reserve Championship to a 9 month old Limousin cross steer from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon which went on to sell for £1500 to the judge.

The second highest price of £5000 was achieved for the second prize 8 month old Plumtree Fantastic sired Black Limousin heifer from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head which went on to sell to Messrs Dickinson, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

A 8 month old pure Limousin heifer sold to make £3500 from Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm, Great Asby which went on to be successfully purchased by Messrs Nisbet, Sorn Mains, Mauchline, Ayrshire.

For what was said to be the best turnout for quality and amount of potential show calves here at our “Kirkby Classic” sale, attracted the busiest ringside of show cattle enthusiasts and buyers from Fife  in the north to Dover in the south. An electric trade matched the show of cattle throughout, with 31 potential show calved selling to average £1805.18.

Store cattle were a fantastic trade with a large company of buyers present.

Heifers averaged £1088.90 (up £147.61 on the year)

Steers averaged £1009.13 (up £47.78 on the year)

Messrs Marston, Easegill Head sold a wonderful run of 14, 7-11 month old steers and heifers to average £1401.43.

Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House sold their consignment of 10, 8-11 month old steers and heifers to average £1305.

Messrs Hill, Whitewall Farm sold their run of 14 pure Limousin heifers at 8-11 month old to average £1260.71
