Kirkby Stephen Annual Continental Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual Continental show and sale of store cattle on Monday, where 533 cattle were on offer.

Topping the sale at £1555 was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Skelton, Low House, Maryport.

The pre sale show was judged by Mr Chris Bell, Far Broom, Appleby and was kindly sponsored by Dodd & Co, Accountant .

Taking the overall championship was a 10 month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Marston, Easegill Head which went on to sell for £1280.

Taking the reserve championship was a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Watson, Whygill Head which sold for £1345.

Steers averaged £1045.75 (-£23), Heifers averaged £970.16 (+ £7).

Messrs Tunstall, Highfield House sold an excellent consignment of 20 Limousin cross and British Blue cross steers to average £1210.

Messrs Taylor, Waterhouses sold a great run of 20 Limousin cross and British Blue cross heifer to average £1171.85.  Messrs Skelton, Low House sold a wonderful run of 63 smart heifers to average £1112.97.

Good quality and stronger cattle were a very strong trade throughout the sale and they were said to be as dear as recently seen anywhere.  Plainer types just followed the general current trend being in lesser demand.
