Kirkby Stephen Beef Breeding Cattle Show & Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual show and sale of beef breeding cattle on Thursday, where a catalogued entry of 565 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £3600 was a British Blue heifer with a Limousin cross heifer calf at foot from John McAlister, Wester Thomaston, Bonnybridge which was bought by Messrs Dobson, White Kirkley, Frosterley.

The pre sale show which was kindly sponsored by Westmorland Accountants, Appleby and was ably judged by Kay Watson who awarded the first prize and the Dawn Robinson Memorial Trophy to a British Blue cross heifer with a Limousin cross Heifer calf at foot and was shown by first time consigner Crain Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden and which went on to make £3500 selling to Gary Bell, Lockerbie

The In-calf section topped at £3200 for a British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Bradley, Penny Grange which sold to Messrs Hill, Whitewall, Appleby.

Messrs Bradley’s outstanding consignment of 24 Continental cross in-calf heifers sold averaged a fantastic £2308.33.

Plenty of buyers were present looking for in-calf cattle with the best quality types being particularly in strong demand.

An outstanding turnout of beef breeding cattle were forward with this sale recently been branded as possibly one of the best shows seen anywhere.

Trade matched the quality and was flying throughout, with the best types particularly been in extreme demand.
