Kirkby Stephen Bluefaced Leicester Show & Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen held their annual Bluefaced Leicester crossing sale on Saturday when a catalogued entry of 261 were on offer.

Topping the sale at £11,000 was a ram lamb sired by Smearsett K1 from local breeders, the Brown family, Asby Hall, Great Asby which sold to Messrs RD Archer, Low Carry House, Hexham.

The pre sale show which was kindly sponsored by Eden Farm Supplies, Dallas Keith Ltd, Copley Coal and For Farmers saw the best shows of Rams put in front of our Judge, Mr R. Harker, Grayrigg Hall.
Mr Harker awarded the Overall Championship to a ram lamb sired by Highberries G1 from Messrs Marston, Millstone Moor, Cockermouth which later went on to sell for £7000 to Messrs RS & BA Harker, Grayrigg Hall and Messrs R Hargreaves, Meadow Bank.

The Reserve Overall Champion was the second placed ram lamb which was sired by Hundith F3 from Messrs Rawsthorne, Scargill Farm, Carnforth which sold for £1000 to Messrs TJ Lee & Son, Hackford, Hexham.
Messrs Marston, Millstone Moor sold their great consignment of 30 Bluefaced Leicester ram lambs to average a fantastic £2624 with 6 lambs from this home selling between £5000 – £8000.

Sale Averages:
166 Ram lambs averaged £1,152.69.
30 Shearling Rams averaged £955.56.
5 Aged Rams averaged £712.50.
7 Females averaged £920.00.

Trade throughout the sale from start to finish was strong with a packed ringside of buyers being in attendance.
This sale is proving its increasing popularity year on year for both attracting many consignments of quality Bluefaced Leicester sheep from leading flocks along with commercial and pedigree buyers to go with them.
