Kirkby Stephen Breeding Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd Kirkby Stephen held their annual sale of Continental, Mule Ewes, Shearlings and Gimmer lambs when a catalogued entry of 3200 sheep were on offer.

Topping the day at £1200 was a Texel cross Shearling Ram from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which was bought by Messrs Donaldson, Middlesborough.

Topping the female section at £365 was a Pure Texel Shearling from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Barnard Castle which was bought by Messrs Clarke, Stripes Farm, Waitby. Also selling from New View Farm was another Texel Shearling making £340 selling to Messrs Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale, Stainmore.

Next selling at £350 was a Pure Beltex cross Shearling Gimmer from Messrs Morland, Starrah, Kaber which sold to Messrs Trafford, Bassenthwaite Hall, Keswick.

The full dispersal of breeding sheep was included on behalf of Messrs Kendal, Outgang Farm, Helton, Penrith, who have been long standing consigners of quality sheep here at Kirkby Stephen regularly topping Tuesday nights prime lamb sales.

Topping their run of sheep at £255 was a pair of Beltex cross Shearlings which sold to Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, Kings Meaburn.

Two pens of three 1 crop Beltex cross Ewes sold for £245, both from Outgang Farm being purchased by Messrs Jackson, Little Beck and Messrs Crighton, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Also selling from this home was a pen of 3 crop Beltex cross Ewes which made £190 selling to Messrs Crighton, Berwick-upon-Tweed.

A pen of four Beltex cross Shearlings sold for £238 to Messrs Jackson, Little Beck, with others selling for £225 to Messrs Dent, Elm House, Bolton and a pen of ten 1 crop Beltex cross Ewes selling for £180 to Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth all from Outgang Farm.

The whole consignment of Shearlings to broken mouthed Ewes from the Outgang dispersal sold to average £150.05 for 659 head sold.

All classes of Breeding Sheep sold to a fantastic trade once again here at Kirkby Stephen with this sale further cementing itself as a diverse fixture of the season.

Two pens of 16 Texel cross Mule Shearlings sold for £202 and £198 from Messrs Thornborrow, Ladying Farm, Winton. The run of 80 Texel cross Mule Shearlings from this home sold to average £185.

Cheviot Mule Shearlings sold to £170 for a pen of 10 from Messrs Hird, Amersber Cottage, Kaber which sold to Messrs Williamson, The Howes, Appleby.

Gimmer lambs sold to top at £188 for a pen of four Beltex cross from Messrs Elliott, Espland House, Penrith which were bought by Messrs Dent, Elm House, Bolton, with another pen of Beltex cross selling for £185 from this home bought by Messrs Hastwell, The Buildings, Kaber.

Messrs Slack, Stoneriggs sold a pen of Beltex cross lambs to make £175 selling to Messrs Crighton, Berwick-Upon-Tweed with Messrs Chester selling another pen of Beltex cross to make £165 also selling to Messrs Crighton.

Two further pens of six Beltex cross Gimmer Lambs sold for £160 both from Messrs Elliott, Espland House being bought by Messrs Dent and Messrs Crighton.

Mule Shearlings sold to £155 for a pen from Haigh Murray, Gretna which were bought by Messrs Brass, Bridge End Farm, Soulby.

The total number of 804 Shearlings forward sold to average £160.35 for all breeds sold. 338 Texel cross Shearlings sold to average £170.01.

Beltex cross Breeding Rams sold to £900 for a Shearling from Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle which was bought by Messrs Peart, Woodcroft Farm, Frosterley.
