Kirkby Stephen NEMSA Lamb Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual prize NEMSA show and sale of Gimmer Lambs on Friday 13th September, where a catalogued entry of 12,410 lambs were on offer.

Topping the sale at £380 was the overall champion pen of 10 Gimmer lambs which received the Late C Jackson Trophy which were consigned by local breeders Messrs Hutchinson, Redgate, Rookby, Kirkby Stephen this fine pen of lambs went on to sell to Messrs Gate, Langford Farm, Lostock Green, Northwich. Our show judges were S. Deeming of Rugby and G Jackson of Bentham with J. Brough, Aspatria acting as referee, with 20 pens out to show being one of the best shows seen here at Kirkby Stephen for some time.

A new class was introduced this year for the best pen of 20 lambs with this being judged by R Graves of High Hesketh & D. Clarke of Kirkby Stephen. Taking the first place position was a pen of twenty lambs from Messrs Taylor, Swathburn which sold for £152 to Raine, Stanhope Gate, Middleton in Teesdale.

Good strong pens of tupping lambs were in strong demand. With plenty of buyers looking for these types and were keenly bid for throughout the day and achieved good returns. The smallest running lambs also found demand slightly ahead of last years trade, with the stronger running lambs looking best value.

An overall sale average of £83.28 for just over 11,000 lambs was achieved which was £3.16 down on the year but over 1500 more lambs were sold on the year and with the majority of these being running lambs.

40 Pens of lambs sold between £120 and £380. 120 Pens of lambs sold in excess of £100.
