On Wednesday evening Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held the Annual Prize Show & Sale of Individual Crowned Swaledale Ewes, Shearlings and Gimmer Hoggs on behalf of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders Association at Kirkby Stephen Mart.
Topping the sale at £4,000 was a gimmer shearling from Messrs Martin, Horsley Burn, Stanhope which was bought by D Humble, Allergill Farm, Stanhope.
Taking the Overall Championship was the first placed gimmer shearling consigned by Messrs Collinson, Billing Shield which went on to sell for £3000 to Messrs Emmerson, Hag Gate Farm, Eastgate.
A 5 shear ewe from Oak Bank sold to make £2800 selling to Messrs Curwen, Marshaw Farm, Abbeystead.
Another ewe from Horsley Burn sold to £2400 selling to Messrs Bland, Crowden House Farm, Glossop. The consignment of 5 sheep from this home sold to average £1980.
The ring was packed with potential customers and Swaledale sheep enthusiasts, who witnessed a fantastic show of sheep put on offer for sale.
14 Gimmer Shearlings averaged £1132.13 (+436.36 on the year)
22 Ewes averaged £834.09 (+£167.42 on the year)
An extra consignment of 71 registered ewes, which were sold in groups of up to eight were offered by Messrs Sowerby, Oak Bank, Barras.
A pair of 2-3 shear ewes from this consignment sold to make £900 each selling to Messrs Bainbridge, Springfield, Brough Sowerby.
Another pen of five 3-5 shear ewes sold for £400 each selling to Messrs Blades, Scarr House, Muker.
The consignment of 71 ewes from Oak Bank sold to average £280.90
The show was kindly sponsored by Eden Farm Supplies, Carrs Billington, H Pigney & Son, Castle Sculptures, Paul Armer Fabrication and H & H Reeds Printers. Judging was carried out by Mr A Alderson, Barras Farm and Mr B Staley, Broadmea with Mr S Thompson, Rosedale acting as referee.
