Kirkby Stephen Store Heifer Sale

Harrison & Hetherington held their Special May store heifers sale at Kirkby Stephen when a catalogued entry of 495 were on offer.

Topping the sale at £1800 was a 14 month old Limousin cross heifers from Messrs Beckwith, New Hall, Kirkby Stephen which was bought by Messrs Malone, Fife.

Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon sold a 11 month old British Blue cross heifer to make £1745 selling to Messrs McAlister, Bonnybridge.

Next selling to £1700 was a 7 month old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Millar, Crookholm Farm, Canonbie which was also bought by Messrs McAlister.

Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House sold a 9 month old British Blue cross heifer to make £1605.

Trade for all types of heifers could only be described as off the clock, with smart well bred heifers for both feeding and breeding being said to be as dear as ever seen.

Over 50 heifers sold between £1200-£1800.

Over a third of the sale sold for in excess of £1100

Heifers with breeding potential regularly sold in excess of £1400 with 10 heifers sold between £1500-£1800.

Plenty of nice bred 8-12 month old feeding heifers regularly sold between £1050-£1100.

An overall sale average of £1015.31 for a predominantly either side of 10-12 month old average age.
