Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual prize show and sale of 3800 Registered and Unregistered Swaledale Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings on Friday.
Topping the sale at £450 was the Overall Champion pen of 10 ewes consigned by Messrs R Hutchinson & Sons, Valley Farm, Barnard Castle, which were bought by Burncroft Farm, Eggleston.
The pre sale show which was kindly sponsored by Armstrong Watson, I’Ansons and H Pigney & Son, was ably judged by Mr G Cartmel, Threlkeld, who had a fantastic show of 12 pens of Swaledale sheep to pick from.
Mr Cartmel awarded the Overall Reserve Championship to the second placed pen of 10 ewes from Messrs WH & M Hutchinson, Uldale, Ravenstonedale which went on to sell for £250 to Lilburn Estates Farming, North Middleton.

The consignment of 120 wonderful ewes from Valley Farm averaged £188.33 with a pen of 20 ewes from this home selling for £235.
Well bred and strong ewes were in strong demand with a packed ringside of buyers present looking for good quality and well made sheep, which resulted in strong competition for these types and a sharp trade to match.
