Lazonby Alston Moor Prize show and Sale of Breeding Sheep

On Saturday 12th October 2019, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual Alston Moor and Lazonby prize show and sale of breeding sheep which was kindly sponsored by Edgars Catering and Eden Farm Supplies (Brough).

1,488 Swaledale Ewes, Shearlings and Gimmer lambs were forward, the pre sale judging was expertly carried out by Mrs Zoe Hall, Hawick who awarded the Championship rosette and Eden Farm Supplies (Brough) trophy to the leading pen from Messrs GA&DE Thompson, Howburn who later went on to top the sale at £145/head and sold to Messrs James, Mid Todhills.

The second prize ewes and Reserve overall came from Messrs Raine, Ravenwood selling to £130 to Messrs C W Riley, Kinkry Hill Park.

A packed ringside of buyers were present ensuring that the sale kept up with other centres, with ewes averaging £69.44, a rise of £11.78 on the year.

The top price shearling pen came from Messrs Dixon, Townfoot selling to Messrs GW & C Athey, Lovelady Shield. This pen also took first prize in the show.

Gimmer lambs were bid up to £50 from Reed Partners, Dyke Nook Farm, Hexham selling to C P Robson, Taylor Burn.

A great entry of Bluefaced Leicester rams and females were forward for Zoe Hall to cast her eye over. She awarded the Championship rosette and Annshill Trophy to the 1st prize ram lamb from Mr D Alderson, East Lowfields selling for £550 to NJ Strickland & Son, The Borrans.

Topping the sale was a shearling ram which was Reserve Champion from Messrs PL & J Dawson, School Cottage selling for £1000 to Fleming & Wilson, Low Mill.

Females were bid to £320 from Messrs PM & P Smith, Parson Shields selling to J Story, Crindledykes.

A good show of texels were forward which saw a ram lamb from Messrs Raine, Randalholme sold for £400 to Messrs Bowman, Brampton Fell Farm.
