Lazonby ‘Alston Moor’ Sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs

3rd October 2018

On Wednesday 3rd October, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual “Alston Moor” show and sale of 18,026 North Of England  Mule Gimmer Lambs within Lazonby Auction Mart.

This noted event, the largest one day sale of sheep in the county was kindly sponsored by LA Smith Livestock Scanning, Katy Edgars Outside Catering, AW Jenkinson, Carrs Billington, Dodd & Co, I’Ansons and Shearwell Data, along with Farmers Guardian ‘Marts the Heart’ sponsoring the best run of 60 or more.

The previous evening saw the pre sale judging take place, with Mule enthusiasts Roger Graves, High Hesket and Janet Dunning, Settle taking up the unenviable task of choosing the prize winners from 16 top quality pens with Eddie Bullman, Thornborough acting as referee.

The Championship rosette along with the William Armstrong Memorial Cup was awarded to K & HA Ridley, Allenshields Farm, Consett with their outstanding pen of ten which later went on to sell to £180 to DW & D Elliott, Bank House, Mungrisedale.

It was late into the night when the top price of £210 was achieved; this was paid for the leading pen from J Lee, Morley Hill Farm, Whitfield, which was placed 6th prize in the show. They sold to JJ Brough, Clappers Farm, Wigton.
