Lazonby Alston Moor Sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs

On Wednesday 2nd October 2019 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Annual ‘Alston Moor’ show and sale of 17,055 Mule Gimmer Lambs within Lazonby Auction Mart, this event was kindly sponsored by LA Smith Livestock Scanning, Katy Edgars Outside Catering, AW Jenkinson, Carrs Billington, Dodd & Co, I’Ansons and Shearwell Data, along with Farmers Guardian ‘Marts the Heart’ sponsoring the best run of 60 or more.

The previous evening saw the pre sale NEMSA show was left in the capable hands of Mr E Bulman, Thornborough and Mr J Vickers, Alnwick with Mr D Buck acting as Referee.

The Champion pen was the leading pen from Messrs Reed, Lands Farm, Bishop Auckland who completed a hatrick of Championships picking up the trophies at local Mule Gimmer lamb sales, their beautiful pen of 10 went on to top the days trade at £280 and sold to one of the judges, Mr Bulman.

The lat Jonty Stalker trophy for the best run of 60 or more Mule lambs was won by Messrs Lee, Morley Hill who sold 439 lambs to average £90.80.

The sale was a great success from start to finish with a sale average of £82.99 seeing a rise of £5.54 on the year, lambs were forward in great form with the Lazonby ringside packed to the rafters throughout the sale, more lambs could have easily been sold with 100% finding new homes and many order books falling short or not being filled at all.  A great thank you to all vendors and purchasers of the Mule making the Alston Moor Sale the landmark event it is.
