On Thursday 13th September Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual show & sale of 2,389 Mule Gimmer Shearlings and Gimmer lambs within Lazonby Auction Mart.
The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Brian Johnston Livestock Haulage, New Breed UK and Murray Farmcare and judged by local Mule enthusiast Julie Brough, Clappers Farm who awarded the championship rosette and the MJ Davidson Memorial Trophy to JJ&E Lawson & Sons, Hundith House.
Julie went on to back her judgement when purchasing the champion pen for £152 a head. Claiming the champion NEMSA rosette and the Richard Hodgson Trophy for the best pen of Gimmer lambs was JJ Armstrong, Croft House which went on to top the section at £130 again to the judge.
The sale saw a busier ringside than seen for a number of years, this made the best end of the sheep being very good to sell with plenty at £135 – £165 however as with other sales both nationally and locally the poorer end proved harder to cash.
The sale topped at £166 for a pen of 18 from Mr BR Davidson, West View whose annual run of 250 Shearlings sold to average £154.40 a head.
The sale averaged £128 a head which is £10 back on last year’s sale.
