ATWOOD CORTINA TOPS AT 11K
The much-anticipated dispersal of the Lillyhall and Lambroda herds took place following the September Border & Lakeland Club sale. Expertly developed by Matthew and Ruth Harper who had invested in some of the best Holstein and Brown Swiss cow families this impressive dispersal topped at 11,000gns to average almost £3000 per life.
The star lot, Lillyhall Atwood Cortina had attracted interest from across Europe with bids coming from Holland and Germany with the winning bid of 11,000gns placed by Mr Holgate owner of the successful Aliann Holstein herd in North Yorkshire. Her dam is the current Holstein Cow of the Year in Switzerland, Hellender Champion Cortina EX94 and her sister Hellender Goldwyn Glinnia was Best Udder and Reserve Grand Champion at Swiss Expo in 2016. The grand dam is one of the all-time favourite cows from Hellender Juror Jurgolin who was a two times winner at Swiss Expo.
Lambroda Chief Margot sold for 5,400gns going to Emerald Isle Genetics in the Rep. of Ireland. Margot placed 7th in the Milking Yearling Class at UK Dairy Expo this year only a few weeks fresh and since then has developed in an impressive two-year-old winning Junior Heifer in the Border & Lakeland Herd Competition this summer. Due in January to Diamondback this could be one to look out for at UK Dairy Expo in March.
One of the most consistent pedigrees in the world must be the Pinehurst Rapture cow family and selling for 4,000gns was Lambroda Silver Royalty bred from sixteen generations of Excellent dams. She was sired by Silver and classified Very Good 86 and looked every part an easy Excellent cow in the future. She was purchased by Mr Denholm from near Stirling.
Topping the cow trade at 4,000gns was Lambroda Fitz Elegant who now joins the Gerrard Holstein herd near Wigton. Recently calved in her second this perfectly balanced cow scored Very Good 88 only a few days fresh. She was bred from nine Excellent dams from the Blachstar Jean cow family and tested over 5% butterfat in her first lactation.
Lillyhall Diamondback Margot was the stand out show calf in the sale selling for 4,300gns to the Yates family from Logan Holsteins. Sired by Diamondback from an Excellent 93 Goldchip dam followed by a future six Excellent dams. Lookout for this head turner in March at UK Dairy Expo.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Friday 2nd October and features the dispersal sale of the Cultercullen herd. This sale will feature 256 animals including all the youngstock.
