On Wednesday 19th September Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their annual Prize Show and Sale of 2,800 North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs at Middleton in Teesdale Mart.
A quality entry of lambs were shown in tremendous bloom despite the dry summer.
In keeping with recent gimmer lamb sales, trade was very selective and stronger, well bred, well presented lambs sold readily while the smallest ‘running’ types proved harder to cash. However a 96% clearance was achieved with the majority of consigners quite satisfied with the days trading.
The sale topped at £152 for the third prized pen from JC & J White, Rigg Farm.
Prior to the sale, the show was judged by Julie Brough, Clappers Farm and Simon Plumb, West End Farm with Andrew Teward, Fair View acting as Referee who place 9 pens of extremely high quality lambs. The Champion pen and winner of the GM Teward & Sons Challenge Trophy and special NEMSA Rosette was awarded to Messrs J & K Metcalf, Park House whose outstanding pen of 10 went to realise £140 and was purchased by Julie Brough, Clappers Farm, Aspatria.
