Newark English Premier Lincoln Red Show & Sale

The first Lincoln Red English Premier show and sale to be run by Harrison and Hetherington in conjunction with Newark Livestock Market went ahead on Saturday with plenty of interest and a busy ringside of buyers.

Topping the sale at 9000gns was the Reserve Senior Champion Donington Watchman from JG Parkinson. This April 2017 born bull, who had also won Reserve Champion at Heckington Show last year, was sired by Foulness Leroy who was purchased at Newark in 2014 for 5800gns. Watchman’s dam Donington Molly P17 has been an exceptional breeding cow for the herd. The successful bidder on this occasion was Thistledown Cowford Farms from Perth.

Nottingham Consultants Limited sold their 2nd prize winning bull Brackenhurst Wiseguy for 6800gns to Messrs Page from Newport, East Yorkshire. Sired by Beverley Raider who also bred last’s year’s top price at this sale Wiseguy was out of the Market Stainton Freddy daughter, Stixwould Eileen.

The 1st prize winning Reserve Junior Champion, St Fort Wuthering Heights, sold for the next best price of 5300gns. Consigned by Messrs Mylius and Partners this bull has exceptional breeding being sired by the successful St Fort Squire and out of St Fort Hannah who is by the breed record holder 18,000gns Beverley Noble. Wuthering Heights was purchased by Messrs Mee from Loughborough.

Messrs Mylius also sold St Fort Wetherby for 4100gns. This September 2017 born son of St Fort Timber is another to be bred from an 18,000gns Beverley Noble sired dam, St Fort Frosty. The successful bidder on this occasion was Messrs Arnold and Sons from Newark.

Emma Green sold her 2nd prize winning Houghton Warchief for 3200gns to Messrs Searby & Sons from Gainsborough. This bull was sired by Beverley Upstart and out of Auchmacoy Ada.

The Senior Male and Supreme Champion came from Nottingham Consultants Limited. This was Brackenhurst Wizzkid another to be sired by Beverley Raider and this time out of the Limestone Dunstan daughter Donington Jessie. Wizzkid was purchased by Messrs Bambridge from Aylsham, Norwich for 3000gns.

Messrs Bambridge also purchased the top price female, an in-calf heifer from Michael Read which sold for 1700gns. Sired by Hemingby Illustrious this hefier Hemingby Bridget was sold in calf to Brackenhurst Viper.
