The Annual ‘Northern Supreme’ Blue Texel Sheep Society show and sale held at Carlisle on Friday 30th August saw a massive entry of 376 rams and females.
The Reserve Male and Overall Champion from the pre-sale show achieved the top prize of 5200gns. This was the ram lamb Beili Blues Dragon from DL & BHW Jones. Dragon was sired by Beili Blues Cymro and out of a homebred dam by Jonsland Wifi. He was purchased by Messrs Tippetts and Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire.
Messrs Tippetts and Williams also purchased the next best ram Hunters Dizzy Rascal from WJ & M Hunter’s Aberdeenshire based flock. This lamb sired by Caryl’s Blues Captain and out of a Millside bred ewe sold for 5000gns.
At 4600gns and best of the shearling rams was R Williams’ Dragon Chris sired by Dragon Buster and out of an imported Turbo Blue dam. This shearling had won 3rd prize in the pre-sale show and went on to be purchased by Messrs Davies, Caersws, Powys.
The 1st prize ram lamb and Overall Champion was Caryl’s Blues Dancer consigned by Caryl Howells. Dancer was sired by a Hackney bred sire HAC/17/01391 by Joes Alvin and out of an imported dam. This lamb sold for 3000gns to Messrs Weatherburn, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
The females topped at 4500gns for the 1st prize ewe lamb Cleenagh Disney Queen from A & C Richardson. Disney Queen was sired by Solway View Bullet and out of the Whatmore Siren daughter Cleenagh Bambino. This lamb had been shown successfully this summer including wins at Balmoral and Omagh shows and she was purchased by Messrs Watret of the Solway View flock.
Messrs Richardson sold their next ewe lamb into the ring for 3800gns. This was Cleenagh Dirty Dancer, a full sister to the 4500gns lamb. Dirty Dancer was purchased by Messrs Higgins from Co Cork, Ireland.
The 2nd prize shearling gimmer came from Stasa Moyse’s flock with her Hackney Your Joking sired Saltire Blue Chic, out of an imported dam. This gimmer sold for 3800gns to Messrs Bowring from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
Stasa also sold Saltire Blue Charlies Angel, another gimmer sired by Hackney Your Joking for 3500gns this time to Messrs Hardman from Lowbands, Gloucestershire.
At 3000gns was the 1st prize gimmer and Female Champion from Paul Tippetts and Christine Williams. Hackeny Cara was sired by a Turbo Blue sire and her dam line goes back to Hackney Xtra-Special. Cara was purchased by Abram Farms from Dereham, Norfolk.
The Reserve Female Champion was the 1st prize ewe Hackeny Yoko who was consigned by Matthew Jones’s Glan-Y-Mor flock. This 2015 born ewe was sired by Whatmore Siren and purchased by Messrs Jewitt from Barnard Castle, Co Durham.
