Reduction Sale of the Wreaywood Pedigree Holstein Herd

15th November 2019

EXCELLENT HOLSTEINS IMPRESS BUYERS AT WREAYWOOD

The much-anticipated sale of the Wreaywood Pedigree Holstein herd took place at Borderway on Friday 15th November with trade topping at 2,200gns seven times to average £1780 with no less than 36 animals selling for or more than £2000.  The Wilson family have farmed at Woodside Farm since 1966 and have, over time developed a wonderful herd of highly productive, powerful Holsteins, and this reduction sale had been arranged as the buildings were reaching their capacity.

Buyers had a wonderful choice of cows and heifers all giving large volumes of milk, in fact the whole group of sale animals were averaging almost 36kgs on twice a day milking, with numerous cows producing over 50kgs.

Several cows and heifers sold for 2,200gns including Wreaywood Roseman Mandy 59 who was purchased by volume buyer JJ Taylor from High Whinnow Farm near Wigton.  This attractive young cow was sired by Redsky Roseman Red and bred from a line of Very Good cows with the grand dam milking for eleven lactations.

The Taylor family also purchased a daughter of Mopan from the Rose cow family.  This beautiful cow graced the front cover of the catalogue and had classified Very Good 86 in her second lactation.  She was producing over 40kgs and was due to DG Brody sexed for next May.

Wreaywood Addiction Debby Red and Wreaywood MVP Jeanne both sold for 2,200gns to the Jackson family from Guillyhill Farm in Dumfries.  Debby was a strong powerful framed Red daughter of Addiction giving 35kgs and Jeanne was a daughter of MVP giving 40kgs.  She was classified Very Good and bred from an Excellent 91 dam sired by Gen-I-Beq Skyfire.

The first cow to sell for over 2000gns was Wreaywood Krusader Patsy milking in her fourth and giving over 50kgs.  She was sired by O-Bee Krusader and traced back to an Excellent 91 third dam.

One of the youngest heifers in the sale sold for 2,200gns to Bradley Farms from Preesall.  Wreaywood Rager Fay 59 was producing over 40kgs per day and was a daughter of RI-Val-Re Rager Red.  She had classified Good Plus 83 and displayed tons of potential to develop into an Excellent cow in the future.

The Wilson family really appreciate the support from everyone who attended their sale and especially to those dairy farmers who purchased their cattle.
