Sale from the Tallent Holstein Herd

8th November 2019

APPLEJAX MANDY TOPS AT TALLENT

The Tallent Holstein herd has accomplished much since it was established in 1987 under the management of Anthony Brough.  Breeding the world’s greatest Holstein sire namely Picston Shottle along with his partners the Pickford family is probably his proudest achievement.  This was the first sale to disperse this famous herd with trade topping at 3,300gns for a classy young cow with the overall average for the milking cows and heifers coming £2186.

Topping the sale at 3,300gns was the cow that graced the front cover of the catalogue, Tallent Applejax Mandy had recently calved in August and was bred from ten generations of dams that classified either Excellent or Very Good.  She had classified Very Good 86 and was purchased by R. Lee from N. Ireland.

Tallent Silver Mandy calved with her second in July and was producing almost 40kgs.  She had recently classified Very Good 88 and was bred from another super line of the Mandy cow family.  She was purchased by Hugh Howie from Stranraer for 2,400gns

Also selling for 2,400gns was Tallent Poldark Marci from the Henkeseen Mark Marci cow family.  Marci had recently calved in October and displayed tons of potential and now joins the herd of Mr Purdie from Stranraer.

Heifer calves from the best cow families with deep pedigrees and sired by great bulls were in strong demand with 51 heifer calves averaging £809.  They topped at 1,900gns for Tallent Silver Sabrina, a June born calf from the Dunnderdale Sabrina cow family.  She followed her Excellent 91 Pine-Tree Sid dam who sold for 1,300gns milking in her fifth lactation and completing eight generation of direct Excellent dams.  This special show calf was purchased by Ewan Corbett from Ayrshire.

Topping the in-calf heifers was an outstanding heifer sired by Silver from the Condon Aero Sharon cow family.  Tallent Silver Chamois was due in January to Samaritan, her pedigree had attracted a flurry of interest being bred from a VG Lauthority dam, VG87 full sister to Picston Shottle and then the iconic Aero Sharon.  She sold for 1,900gns to the Hodge family from Ayrshire.

The Brough family would like to thank everyone who supported their sale and helped in the runup to the event and would like to wish everyone much success with their new purchases.
