Special May Show and Sale of Continental Cross Store Cattle and weekly sale of Weaned Cattle

STORE CATTLE –  A marvellous entry of 966 store cattle forward at the Special May Show and Sale and all classes were easily sold. The pre sale show was kindly judged by Mr Ben Winn, Yorkshire who awarded his Champion rosette to Messrs Murray, The Throp for a Limousin Heifer.

Top overall price was a Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg, Appleby who received £1355 and £1335 for another from the same home. Simmental crosses sold to £1270 for two from Messrs Oliphant, Annan Road, Dumfries and Charolais crosses to £1200 from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg.

In the steer section a day’s top of £1335 was paid to Messrs Todd, Longhurst, Brampton for a Limousin cross. Simmentals to £1235 from Messrs Storey, Tinnishall, Canonbie. Charolais to £1200 from Messrs Atkinson, Hawkrigg and Aberdeen Angus crosses to £1195 from Messrs Todd, Longhurst, Brampton. Dairy bred cattle peaked at £1060 for two Montbeliarde crosses from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae.

WEANERS- Once again a large show of 405 weanlings were forward with a small ring side of buyers which resulted in all classes being a lot less on the week.  Messrs Fiddler, Barrow Ling run of bulls topped at £1230 (x2) £1190 (x2) £1150 (x2) for Charolais crosses.   Messrs Tallentire, High Griseburn sold the top priced Limousin bull for £1100.  Messrs Dale, Airds of Balcary sold two Charolais bulls for £1100.
