The Babes Stars of the Future Sale

The second annual Babes sale was made up of four noted consignors namely –Jewitt & Sunnybank Flocks (Henry Jewitt), Matts Flock (Matthew Burleigh), Withy Trees Flock (Andrew Wood) and Hackney & Wilodge Flocks (Paul & Christine Williams). The sale this year incorporated a consignment of Badger Faced Texels and Dutch Spotted from Henry Jewitt as well as the usual Beltex entry.

In the Beltex section a top price of 2500gns was achieved twice. Firstly by Henry Jewitt for Jewitt Easy Girl an embryo lamb sold with her recipient dam. Easy Girl was sired by 3000gns Arkle DJ and her dam, Jewitt Crystal, is a daughter of Munreary Beast.  This lamb was purchased by Messrs Buckle from Kirkby Stephen.

Henry also sold an ET ram lamb for 2000gns. This was Jewitt Extraordinary sired by 7300gns Kingledores Drake and out of Jewitt Cascade who won Champion lamb at the National Beltex Show in 2017.  He was successfully purchased by Messrs Garth from Bentham, Lancashire.

The other Beltex to sell at 2500gns came from Matthew Burleigh’s flock. The first of his consignment, this ET ewe lamb Matt’s Ella, was sired by Woodies Dominator and out of Matt’s Archangel. She was purchased by Messrs Bowring from Mansfield who also purchased another of Matthew’s ET lambs for 1600gns. Matt’s Ellen has the same dam but was this time sired by 3500gns Hackney Download.

The final lamb from this consignment also sold for 1600gns helping the Matt’s flock to the highest sale average of £1995 for the 3 recipients with lambs at foot sold.  This final ewe lamb was Matt’s Eleanora who was bred exactly the same way as Ellen but this time purchased by Messrs Morton from Denny, Stirling.

The Hackney and Wilodge flock’s sold an ET lamb for 1800gns. This well bred ewe lamb Hackney Emelia was sired by Airyolland Asulam who also bred 65,000gns Airyolland Castro and her dam Hackney Crisp is a full sister to the 2017 Royal Welsh Show Male Champion Hackney Corker.

The Withy Trees flock sold the highest priced ewe hogg at 1100gns. This was a substitute entry Withy Trees Derbystar, sired by Jewitt Blazing Heat and out of the Kingledores Wigglesworth daughter Withy Trees Ariel. She was purchased by Messrs Gill, Borrowdale, Keswick.

Andrew Wood also sold an ET lamb to Messrs Gill for 1000gns. Withy Trees Expose, sired by 10,000gns Matt’s Ducati last year’s Carlisle Premier Sale Champion. Expose’s dam is Kingledores Wendoline who was purchased as a shearling.

The Production sale of Badger Faced Texels from Henry Jewitt’s Sunnybank flock sold to a top of 2800gns for lot 315 an imported ewe hogg who was purchased by Messrs Brown from Alloa, Clackmannanshire.

Henry’s Badger Faced flock was established last year after importing a number of proven breeding females and males from Belgium and Holland.  A ewe lamb out of these imported animals, Sunnybank April, sold with her recipient dam for 1500gns to Messrs Moir from Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. April was sired by the famous 96 ram who has been used successfully in the flock.

A full sister to this lamb, Sunnybank All My Heart, also sold for 1100gns to Messrs MacGregor, Kilsyth, Glasgow.

Dutch Spotted topped at 1200gns for lot 261 a ewe hogg imported from the Netherlands by Henry.  This hogg was purchased by Messrs Drabble from High Peak, Derbyshire who also went on to purchased a further two for 900gns. This consignment of Dutch Spotted ewe hoggs averaged £523.45.
