New Facilities Manager appointed at H&H Group Taking on a dream job at Borderway

H&H Group is delighted to announce the appointment of Karl Stout as Facilities Manager for Harrison & Hetherington and will be based at the company’s Head Office at Borderway Mart in Carlisle.  Karl will work across all of the H&H auction marts based in the North of England and the Borders.

Karl joins H&H after 14 years working with Amey\Urbaser, most recently as an Operations and People Manager, working in partnership with Eden District Council to oversee the smooth running of the municipal contract.

Borderway has become one of the largest and most progressive livestock sales centres in the UK, and all the mart centres are crucial hubs for their support of the livestock farming sector and for their wider rural communities. In his new role Karl will cover the day-to-day management and maintenance of all the Group’s Farmstock facilities.

Group CEO Richard Rankin welcomes the new addition to the H&H team: “Agriculture is going through a period of profound change at this time, and this makes it even more critical for our livestock trading services to offer our customers the best of both traditional support and the latest in technology and facilities when buying and selling with us.

“Karl’s professional expertise and track record, and his experience and understanding of the nature of our business makes him the perfect fit for us; in crucial areas such as Health & Safety and Regulatory Compliance, he will make a major contribution to the business and to the welfare and security of all our staff. Karl already understands our values and our commitment to our staff and our customers, and I have no doubt whatsoever that he will immediately become a trusted member of the H&H family.”

The new Facilities Manager’s duties include ensuring all facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health and security standards. Karl will be responsible for managing budgets, staffing and contractors relating to all Borderway facilities, for maintaining the Group’s high level of Health & Safety for all staff and customers whilst working closely with our dedicated Health, Safety & Welfare Manager, and for overseeing operations to ensure the highest standards of animal welfare.

Cumberland born and bred, Karl has known and visited Borderway Mart all his life, and his new position is a dream combination of his personal and professional interests. “I have always been involved in agriculture and I visited Borderway many times when I was a boy. In the past I used to keep about 30 Texels so I have been on the other side of the Farmstock fence as well.

“Over 20 years I have dealt with every aspect of facilities and operations management, and I am looking forward to bringing all my knowledge and experience to bear on keeping the Borderway facilities compliant and fit for purpose. I am already proud to be working for the H&H Group and helping to keep the Borderway livestock reputation at the forefront in the UK, and it is going to be a great pleasure to be able to travel to all the sites across an amazing landscape I have always loved.”
