First things first – wow! Cattle prices are hitting record highs, and it’s certainly an exciting time for the industry. Cast cows are now selling at over £4 per kilo, while stock bulls are making over £4,000 a head. Store cattle prices continue to soar, averaging around £2,000 per head, with bulls reaching up to £3,000. With stock numbers still in decline, this could well become the new norm moving forward. Farmers and industry professionals alike will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the trends in the coming months.
On the machinery front, things are equally positive at Harrison & Hetherington. We’ve been busy working on a brand-new machinery yard, which will be coming into operation very soon. This investment will allow us to better serve our customers and improve efficiency in handling machinery sales. We’ve already had a fantastic start to the year, with several successful farm sales under our belt. Recently, we held two farm sales on the same day – one in Appleby and the other in Corbridge – both of which proved to be incredibly successful.
Looking ahead, at the time of writing this, we are excited about the upcoming Lancashire sale, which we are conducting for the second time. Additionally, we are gearing up for our first-ever gardening sale of the year set to take place at the new site, on Friday, April 4th, we look forward to seeing how it goes.
On a slightly different note, I was recently invited by our sister company, H&H Land & Estates, to oversee their property and land auctions. This was a fantastic opportunity, and I was delighted to take part. So far, I have conducted two sales, and both went exceptionally well. It’s a bit of a change from the auctions I am accustomed to, but it has been a rewarding challenge and one I have thoroughly enjoyed.
All in all, it’s been a busy and exciting start to the year, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the coming months will bring. Whether it’s livestock, machinery, or property sales, we at Harrison & Hetherington are committed to delivering the best possible results for our customers. Here’s to a successful season ahead!
