Borderway Anniversary Store Cattle show & sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 25th August, Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1372 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 869 Store Cattle, 144 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 359 Calves, which included the 47th Anniversary show and sale of store cattle.

STORE CATTLE – An outstanding entry of 869 Continental cross store cattle were forward at the Anniversary show and sale this week, whereby trade soared well above expectations all day, with averages seeing a rise of £300 on the same sale two years ago, and a increase of £140 on last year. The sale saw 205 cattle selling over £1300 and 11 vendors saw their averages at £1400 or more.

The pre sale show was ably carries out by Francis and Andrew Smith, The View, Carnforth, placing their Overall Champion as the 1st prize Limousin steer from Messrs Slack, Plumtree House, Penrith. This later sold for £1720. The Smith due then awarded the Reserve Champion to the 1st prize Limosuin cross heifer from Messrs Slack, once again, later selling to £1520. The Judges fully backed their judgement by purchasing both animals.

Outwit the show, a days top overall of £1780 was achieved by annual consigners Messrs Telford, Edenlin, Carlisle. Other Limousin crosses sold to £1720 this time from Messrs Grieve, Whiteside, Hexham. Charolais crosses to £1540 from Messrs Baty, Broomhill, Carlisle.

 Steers sold to a days top of £1750 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Storey, Limestone Cottage, Penrith. Two Limousin cross steers to £1720 from Messrs Telford, Ednelin. British Blues to £1485 from Messrs Holliday & Graham, Bolton Wood Lane, Wigton. Holsteins sold to £1400from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.

WEANED CATTLE : A high flying day for all types of cattle in the Carlisle weaning ring.  Bulls topped at an astonishing £1460 for a Limousin from Messrs Dixon & Chapelhow, Westfield House, Port Carlisle.  The same home had another at £1455.  Messrs Fletcher, Black Cleugh had a pair of good Limousin bulls at £1360.  British Blues were up to £1270 and £1250 from Messrs Graham, Barnglies.  Young 8 month old bulls from Messrs Gardner, Glebelands reaching £870.  Bullocks and heifers were also a fantastic trade with South Devons up to £1100 for 4 Bullocks from Messrs Lawson, High Boonwood.  British Blue bullocks to £1030 from the same home.  Simmental bullocks topped at £1070 from B Mccolm, Awhirk.  British Blue heifers sold to £1015 again from Messrs Lawson and Limousins to £930 from A Carlyle, Slealands.
