Lockerbie, Sydney Place, Lockerbie, DG11 2JA

On Wednesday 15th September Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held its Annual Sale of North Country Cheviot Park Rams & Females at Lockerbie Mart.

A world record price for a North County Cheviot Park Ram was achieved by Mr Runciman, Allanshaws, Stow, Galashiels with the Champion lot 146 which sold at £15,000 to Mr Neil Barclay, Harestone, Banchory.  This almost doubled the previous record which had stood since 1979. This shearling ram Allanshaws Bullseye was sired by Sebay Xcitable.

Mr James Baillie, Sebay, Orkney had a superb day selling Sebay Bang On for £6000. This shearling was sired by Smerlie Xtreme and purchased by Mr R Kilvington, Parsonage, Dulverton.

Three rams sold for £4500 the first of these was Lot 135 Smerlie Brave from Andrew Polson that was purchased by Messrs Williams from Hereford. Peter Hedley’s Overacres Big Lad sired by Broomhillbank Tough Lad also sold for £4500 along with another from Messrs Runciman, Allanshaws Bentley who was sired by the same sire at the top price ram.

The female trade was flying once again with demand ever increasing for the breed. New buyers from far and wide appear prepared to invest in quality sheep. Draft ewes topped at £350 from Kelsocleugh with Messrs Thompson, Hownam Grange receiving £300 for ewes too. Gimmers topped at £900 twice from Messrs Cowan, Boghead of Greenhill for two fantastic sheep. Ewe lambs were also a marvelous trade topping again at £900 from Messrs Davies, North Synton.
