Kirkby Stephen Breeding Ram Sale

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Annual Prize Show and Sale of Continental cross Breeding Rams on Friday when another increased entry of 182 breeding rams were on offer.

Topping this section at £1600 was the overall champion ram, a Beltex cross shearling consigned by regular supporters Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside, Barnard Castle with the successful purchaser being T Brogden, Helbeck Farm, Brough.

Our judge Mr R Tiplady, Red House Farm, Barnard Castle awarded the reserve championship to a Beltex cross shearling which sold for £700 to Messrs Robson, Malton.

Messrs Chester, Grassgill Lodge sold a Beltex cross 2 shear to top his consignment at £1100 selling to Messrs Robson, Consett.

For the first time offering his whole consignment of rams here at Kirkby Stephen Messrs Chester averaged a wonderful £821.33 for 15 rams sold.

Messrs Wearmouth, Parkside also sold shearling rams to make £1050 selling to Messrs Atkinson, Abbey Park, Bleatarn. The consignment of 8 rams from this home sold to average £901.25.

Local young ram producer G Slack, Stoneriggs, Hilton sold Texel cross shearlings to top at £1000 selling to Messrs Maughan, Bishop Auckland.

Ram lambs sold to top at £950 for a Beltex cross from Messrs Teward, New View Farm, Staindrop selling to Messrs Jackson, Reagill.

A fantastic show od breeding rams were on offer here at Kirkby Stephen and trade for all types was literally flying being one of the dearest for mainly crossbred rams seen all season.

The whole sale average for aged, shearlings and ram lambs was a wonderful £540.33 for a 92% clearance!

This sale of mainly continental cross breeding females and rams is growing in popularity and reputation year on year, with great credit must be given to all consigners who turned out such a wonderful show of top quality breeding sheep in all sections!
