Borderway Show & Sale of Suckled Calves

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Saturday 25th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual prize show and sale of suckled calves at Borderway Mart which was very kindly sponsored by Capontree Vets.

Another excellent selection of predominately Autumn born calves met a flying trade from the start with best quality butchers types and show potential calves meeting an extremely strong demand.

The sale was toped at £3200 by an outstanding unhaltered Limousin x heifer from Messrs Fowlie, Guise, Alford which was picked and purchased by Blair Duffton, Huntly. Following closely was another heifer just outside the prizes from Helen Claxton, High House Farm, Newton which went on to make £3000 and was purchased by Jean McKay, Harelaw Farm, Glasgow.

Prior to the sale Mr Frank Robson, South Farm, Ryal judging the single entries awarded the Harrison & Hetherington Ltd Perpetual Challenge Cup for the Overall Champion to a wonderful Limousin cross heifer bred and shown by Craig Robertson, Newton of Logierait, Pitlochry which made £2600 and was purchased by Mr T Holloway, Letham Farm, Newton Mearns, Glasgow.

The Reserve Champion was awarded to the 1st prize Limousin x steer from Messrs Telfer, Newton High House, Stocksfield which made £1800 and was purchased by Mark Hallam, Ashbourne.
