Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

On Wednesday 29th September Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1168 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 550 Store Cattle, 213 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 405 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – Yet another good entry of 550 store cattle, quality was very mixed throughout the sale and trade would also show a variety of prices throughout.  Best grown and best fleshed cattle still very easily sold but all others just seeing an easing on trade.  Top overall at £1490 were two Limousin cross steers from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, Messrs Miller, Tarn Lodge Farm, Brampton sold another to £1450.  Two lots sold at £1480 firstly for a Beef Shorthorn cross from Messrs Bendle, The Nook, Carlisle and secondly by Tarn Lodge Farm again this time with a British Blue cross.  Charolais to £1360 from Messrs Wilson, Scales, Penrith.  Heifers peaked at £1400 for a Limousin cross from Messrs Inman, Kilnknowe, Lockerbie, £1380 for another from Messrs Slack, Newby Farm, £1360 for an Aberdeen Angus from Messrs Dixon, Whinney Hill, Brampton and £1330 for two British Blues crosses from Claremont Properties.  Please advise entries for next week’s sale

WEANED CATTLE: Bull and stirk trade remains buoyant with more weathered cattle on show.  All types still well bid for.  Bulls topped at £1240 for Limousin from Norman farming Company.  The same home also had bulls at £1170 and £1160.  Messrs Wigham, Hargill House also had good Limousin  bulls at £1140 and £1100.  British Blue bulls topped at £1140 from Messrs Carruthers, Rawfoot.  Aberdeen Angus bullocks reached heights of £1170 twice from D A Summers, Milescott.  Limousin bullocks to £1080.  Blonde to £870 and Friesians bullocks to £805.  Heifers topped for a British Blue again from Messrs Carruthers, at £1030 while Holstein Friesian heifers topped at £715 from Armstrong of Broomhills.
