Broughton Show & Sale of Herdwick and Swaledale Rams

On Tuesday 28th September, Harrison and Hetherington held their Annual show and sale of Swaledale and Herdwick rams, within Broughton Auction Mart.

A new Centre Record was set at the Annual show and sale, by Herdwick enthusiasts Jonno & Lauren Hoggarth, with their homebred Herwick shearling, selling late in the day, and claiming 4th prize in his class sold to 7000gns.

£7000 ram from J & L Hoggarth

The pre sale show was left in the very capable hands of young breeders Mr Bobby Tyson and Mr Jack Black placing Anthony Hartley, Turner Hall 1st prize shearling as Overall Champion  and selling to 1000gns. Claiming the Reserve Champion rosette was Messrs Thompson, Climb Stile with his 1st prize 2 shear ram selling to 1600gns.

A larger entry of Swaledale rams were forward, which was kindly judged by Mr David Mallet, who placed Messrs Capstick, Whicham Hall Overall Champion with his 1st prize aged ram, selling to the day’s top of £900. Messrs Capstick sold another aged ram, sired by the Champion to £800.

The Reserve honors was given to Messrs Lightfoot, Gillside with his 1st prize shearling selling to £650. The shearling section topped at £800 from Messrs Edmondson, Low Hall.

The trade throughout proved selective, despite a huge ringside of buyers, ensuring a high clearance rate of all rams, with strong, quality rams selling regularly away at £700+.

The next sale at Broughton Mart will be the Show and Sale of Mountain ewes on Tuesday 5th October.
