Lazonby Alston Moor Sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs

On Wednesday 29^th September 2021 Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held the Annual ‘Alston Moor’ show and sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs which draw a catalogued entry of 16,505 head.

This much anticipated annual event was kindly sponsored by LA Smith Livestock Scanning, Katy Edgars Outside Catering, AW Jenkinson, Dodd & Co, I’Ansons and Shearwell Data.

The pre sale judging for NEMSA lambs was kindly undertaken by Mr D Buck, Barnard Castle and Mr K Harrison, Worcester with Mr G Humphrey, Northampton acting as referee a marvellous show of 14 pens was presented before them with many commenting they were the best seen for some time.

After great deliberation the champion rosette along with the William Armstrong Memorial Cup was awarded to GR Wharton & Sons, Keisley they went on the sell at £360 to regular buyer, JJ&A Brough, Clappers, Wigton.

Amazingly Geoff did the double scooping the second prize rosette aswell which is an unbelievable achievement these sold at £230 again to Messrs Brough.

It was the third prize pen from F&M Moore, Highside, Haltwhistle which lead the sale at £460 per head which is a record for this event and sold to Jack Robb, Bedfordshire.

The late Jonty Stalker trophy for the best run of 60 or more lambs which was kindly sponsored by the Marts the Heart was judged by Mr E Holliday, Clea Mire, Wigton who awarded this accolade to Messrs Elliott, Harbour Flatt, their run of 197 lambs sold to £190 and averaged £136.69.

Outwith the show the sale drew huge interest with the busiest ringside seen for years this ensured a brisk trade throughout seeing an average of £126.65 being achieved which is £19.63 up on last years sale, this left every vendor bar none elated with their returns.
