Middleotn In Teasdale Store Cattle, Breedinsheep and Store Lambs

On Tuesday 5th October, at Middleton in Teesdale Mart Harrison & Hetherington held its sale of store cattle along side a breeding and store sheep sale.

STORE CATTLE: A good show of 40 cattle were presented to a full ringside of enthusiastic buyers and were met with a strong trade throughout, with cattle easily matching and beating other local centres. Topping the sale was local supporters Tarn Bros, Toft House selling a Limousin steer to £1140, with heifers selling to £1070 from new consignors HW & MA Alderson & Son, Howgill Grange.

STORE LAMBS: A strong show of store lambs were forward to an ever-growing ringside eager to purchase quality sheep. The pre sale show took place and the Overall Champion came from MW & E Dent, Wythes Hill selling 36 Mules to £81. MB & G Scott, Greenacres claimed the Reserve position and topped this section with a pen of 27 Texel lambs selling to £85.

Messrs Scott sold a run of 150 lambs to average £81.27.

Swaledale lambs were described as being the dearest trade ever witnessed with lambs regularly selling to £45-£52. Topping this section at £52 for a run of 22 from Messrs Sanderson & Bell, Valance Lodge.

BREEDING SHEEP: Breeding sheep were once again in high demand, with a pen of 8 3shr ewes from Messrs Bainbridge, West Friar selling to £130.

The Annual show and sale of Bluefaced Leicester’s was kindly judged by Mr Josephe Nattress, who awarded the Championship rosette to a shearling Bluefaced Leicester ram from Messrs Stephenson, Pikestone who later sold to £300. Texels topped at £450 for the 1st prize Texel from W & A Bainbridge, Laneside.
