Broughton Annual Sucked Calf Show & Sale

On Tuesday 12th October at Broughton Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of suckled calves.

The pre sale show was kindly sponsored by Broughton and Ulverston NFU and expertly judge by Mr David Jarman, Brow Top Farm.  Mr Jarman placed the 1st prize bullock as his Overall Champion, also winning the Mrs Marion Sherwen Cup to a 7 month old British Blue consigned by RD Holland & Co, Low Scale. The judged backed his decision by later purchasing it for £950.

Messrs M & AM Irving & Son, Dove Ford received the Reserve rosette for their 1st prize heifer a Limousin which sold to £1000.

Outwit the show, bullocks topped at £1140 for a Limousin from Messrs Ellwood, Everard Lodge Farm, and Limousin heifers to £1100 from the same home. Messrs Ellwood’s tremendous run of cattle average £1106.67. Younger and smaller cattle were in the biggest demand of the day, while the older cattle looked better value for money.

The next sale at Broughton Auction Mart will take place on Tuesday 19th October, the Principal sale of store sheep and feeding ewes.
