At Lockerbie on Monday 11th October Harrison and Hetherington held their annual Show and Sale of Hill Cheviot Rams on behalf of the Cheviot Sheep Society. Probably the largest attendance of buyers ever, with the majority travelling from Wales, witnessed record averages and a new breed record. 361 rams averaged £1489.80 which was plus £200.07 on the year for 57 more sold.

A new world record price for a Cheviot Hill ram was achieved by Mr T Elliot, Hindhope, Jedburgh with Lot 281 which sold at £28,000 in a half share between J Robertson & Son, Becks and J Common & Son, Crossdykes. This 2 shear ram (05266) was sired by Mountbenger Yabadabadoo.

At £20,000 Messrs J Common & Son, Crossdykes sold Lot 224 (12889), sired by Stirkfield Zoomer, and held the record for half an hour until the Hindhope ram was sold.  This ram was purchased by Mr RH Paton, Gateslack, Thornhill.

Late in the day Messrs J Robertson & Son, Becks sold Lot 346, a Becks Revolution sired ram, at £20,000 to Mr T Elliot, Hindhope.

Messrs WN Douglas, Catslackburn sold Lot 188 for £12,000 purchased by Messrs Hume, Sundhope Farm.
