Lockerbie Store Cattle & Suckled Calf SHow & Sale

Furious trade at Lockerbie’s knock out suckled calf sale.

On Tuesday 12th October Harrison & Hetherington held its fortnightly sale of store cattle and annual sale of suckled calves at Lockerbie Auction Mart. The busy ring side of buyers fought over the quality show of cattle resulting in an even wilder trade on the year. Limousin heifers sold to 352.1ppk from Messrs Wright, Hunthills. F Dalgleish, Douglas Hall Farm got 345.7ppk for the day’s Reserve Champion and 1st prize heifer. Limousin bullocks were up to 320ppk from Messrs Wright, Hunthills who also sold the day’s overall champion and 1st prize bullock which weighed over 400kg and made 296ppk. This whole consignment averaged over 300ppk for the quality they had on offer. D Brown, Mosshead sold heifers to 316ppk and bullocks to 297ppk again for outstanding quality. Messrs Halliday, Crawthat sold a fantastic run of Limousin cattle up to 293.5ppk and £1170.   

The top price per head on the day was for a Limousin bullock from Messrs Richardson, Purdomstone which made £1360. The same good home also had a heifer a £1350 and another bullock at £1240. Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £1150 for a pen of 4 then a pen of 8 from Messrs Jardine, Newbigging. While Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at £1145 for a pen of 7 from Mr McKerrow, Darlawhills. Beef Shorthorn topped at £1140 for a heifer from Messrs Goldie, Greenfields who also sold the top price Charolais heifer at £1160. Top price bull on the day was for an 8 month old pure Limousin again from Messrs Dalgliesh that made 286.5ppk or £1020.

A good day all round for both buyers and sellers with quality achieving heavyweight prices and all cattle bring easy sold right from the sound of the bells
