Kirkby Stephen Luke Fair Sale of Store Cattle

Kirkby Stephen, Faraday Road, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QL

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their annual ‘Luke Fair’ sale of store cattle on Monday, where a catalogued entry of 621 cattle were on offer.

The sale topped at £2000 on two separate occasions firstly for a 18 month old Limousin cross heifer from Messrs Lyon, Lincolnshire which sold to Messrs Rodney, Ripon.

Also selling for £2000 was a 16 month old British Blue cross heifer from Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth, Great Asby which was bought by Messrs Lee, Agars Hill Farm, Hexham.

Steers sold to £1755 for a 18 month old British Blue cross also from Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth which was bought by D Barker. 

British Blue cross steers also sold to £1725, £1715 and £1705 all from Ash Garth.

Limousin heifers also sold to £1980 from Terrys Farm which went home with Messrs Malone, Fife. Limousin cross heifers also to £1920 and £1900 twice all consigned by Terrys Farm and bought by Messrs Huck, Austwick; Messrs Beveridge, Bishop Auckland and Messrs Lee Hexham.

British Blue cross heifers also sold for £1850 from Messrs Maughan, Ash Garth also selling to Messrs Lee, Hexham.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm also sold a pen of three Limousin cross steers to make £1705.

Messrs Lyon, Lincolnshire sold their consignment of 12 cattle to average a whopping £1707.86.

Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm sold their run of 50 cattle to average £1600.15

Trade was the dearest seen with all classes being in strong demand and good quality steers and heifers being off the clock.

Steers averaged £1244.68 (up £135.32 on the year)

Heifers averaged £1193.47 (up £91.13 on the year)

With a fantastic overall sale average of £1225.35 being achieved.

A whopping 70 cattle sold between £1500-£2000

96 Cattle sold in excess of £1400.
