Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 20th October Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1325 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 500 Store Cattle, 319 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 358 Calves.  Also this day 148 dairy cattle in the Border & Lakeland Club Sale which included a consignment of Youngstock from Wormanby Holsteins, Carlisle. 

STORE CATTLE – An entry of just short of 500 sees Borderway bring the store trade back alive with all big and best quality cattle far dearer than seen for many a week.  Topping the sale at £1700 were two Charolais steers from Messrs Story, Blackrigg, Longtown who saw their consignment of 10 average £1519.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth peaked at £1690 for a British Blue cross.  Limousins to £1490 on two occasions, firstly from Messrs Seymour, Brackenslack, Penrith and secondly by Messrs Brough, Clappers, Wigton.  Holstein Friesians from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, to £1400 for two steers.  Heifers to £1460 for Limousins cross from Messrs Charlton, Crown Point, Penrith and £1370 for another from Messrs Bowman, Croft House, Penrith.  Aberdeen Angus heifers from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe to £1290 and a Friesian heifer from Messrs Bulman, Burnhouse, Hexham to £1150. 

Many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. Please advise entries for next week’s sale

WEANED CATTLE: A large show of 319 weanling were on offer with quality being in great demand.  Top price of the day came from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm for a Limousin x bull selling for £1290.  Another Limousin bull from Messrs Scott, Stanley House sold for £1260 at 11 months of age. Messrs Fox, St Johns Kirk sold a Luing bull for £1100.  In the heifer section Messrs Carlisle, Fowrass Farm, sold Simmental x heifers for £1150 (x2) £1090 £1080 (x2) and £1070 (x3).  Messrs Fox, St Johns Kirk Limousin x heifers topped at £1150 and £990 for Charolais x heifers at 11 months of age.
