Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Wednesday 3rd November Harrison & Hetherington had 1431 forward cattle at their weekly sale comprising of an entry of 549 Store Cattle, 199 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings 327 Calves and 356 Dairy cattle in the Monthly Borderway Dairy day.  

STORE CATTLE – Another large show of store cattle forward in Borderway this week although power was in short supply, there was plenty of quality on offer resulting in a more brisk trade throughout.

Bullocks sold to average £1109.23 with heifers levelling at £1084.58 giving an overall average of £1099.12.  Sixty two cattle sold in excess of £1300 with Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth leading the heifer trade at £1690 and the bullock trade at £1680.  Native cattle sold to £1400 for Angus heifers from Gretna House Farms, Gretna.  Dairy cattle to £1190 for Holstein from Rose Farm.  Young cattle peaked at £1360 and £1350 for exceptional British Blue heifers from Tom Fisher, Smalmstown, Longtown.

Many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. Please advise entries for next week’s sale

WEANED CATTLE: Once again another quality run of weaned cattle were forward at Borderway with all shapes and sizes forward and all types still very well bid for.  Top price of the day was paid for a Limousin x bull from Messrs Staff, Longrow, Canonbie topping the day at a very respectable £1270.  Bull trade was very buoyant once again with shapey and well fleshed bulls going beyond all expectations,

Top price among the steers was paid for a Limousin x steer from Messrs Caddy, The Crescent, Egremont selling to £1210.  Heifers topped at £1000 for a Fleckvieh x from Newhouse Farms, Holywood, Dumfries.

Suckled type calves were also forward in good numbers with 5/6 month old suckler bred selling for £800+ regularly away.
