Wreaywood Tops Trade at £2600

Over 400 dairy cattle filled the Borderway Sale Centre for the November sale with a super group of freshly calved cows and heifers on offer.  Holstein, Ayrshire, Montbeliarde, British Friesian and Jersey Cross cattle sold with trade topping at £2600 with 40 animals selling for or more than £2000.  The average for 142 Holstein heifers was slightly up on the month to average £1737 with Holstein cows averaging £1945.

Topping the trade at £2600 was an outstanding cow consigned by the Wreaywood Holstein herd.  Wreaywood Abro Debby was sired by Sandy-Valley Abro and was giving 56kgs in her second lactation. 20 cows and heifers from his herd sold to average £1961. 

Holstein heifers topped at £2500 for Witherslack Silver Barbara consigned by Wayne Inman from Grange Over Sands.  She was giving 40kgs with an incredible udder and impressive frame.  Witherslack heifers averaged £2375.

Balcurvie Holstein sold a cracking group of very milky heifers topping at £2300 for Balcurvie Dealmaker Cassie sired by Claynook Dealmaker.   

The Lyle’s from Nether Pratis Farm in Fife sold a top consignment of cows and heifers and topped at £2250 for Cambus Pendulum Poppy giving 44kgs and bred from a Hailstone dam. 

British Friesian trade remained strong with a small select group averaging £1800 to at £2100 for Nerewater Iris consigned by Richard Bell from near Wigton.  

Cross bred Montbeliarde cows were again sought after and topped at £1850 for a MVP daughter from a Montbeliarde dam consigned by Mathew Workman from the Beeches Farm.

Jersey cross bred heifers topped at £1800 for a silky hided heifer consigned by Tom Stewart from Sandyknowe Farm near Kelso with 12 averaging £1604.  A total of 43 heifers from this home averaged £1781 and topped at £2100 on four occasions. 

In-Calf heifers remain excellent value for money with many selling well below their true value. Holstein In-Calf heifers averaged £1312 and topped at £1450 on five occasions.

An attractive group of bulling heifers from three consignors averaged £754 and topped at £900 for a daughter of Oakfield Modesty Eureka consigned by Matthew Gemmell from Brownfield Farm, Dumfires. 

Heifers calves were less money compared to the previous few months and topped at £400 twice for two well grown calves sired by Bob Farish from East Farm.  They were sired by Harley P and bred from high producing dams.
