On Wednesday 10th November Harrison & Hetherington had 1471 forward cattle at their weekly sale comprising of an entry of 563 Store Cattle, 306 Suckled calves, 214 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 388 Calves

STORE CATTLE – Yet another superb entry of 563 strong store cattle forward at the weekly sale, whereby quality was more mixed than last week but trade sailed on with an outstanding trade achieved for all classes.

Topping the sale overall was a British Blue cross heifer from a run of 11 from Messrs Ritchie, Stormont, Gretna achieving a days top of £1740 and a healthy average of £1357 for all sold.  Others highlights of the day came from noted consignors Messrs Hunter, The Steel Farm, Hexham who had an unbelievable trade averaging £1406 for 25, at 12 and 13 month sold steers and heifers.  The top call for the family was £1600 on three separate occasions and £1580 for another all of these Limousin crosses.  Aberdeen Angus crosses for local farmers Messrs Henderson, Quarry Park, Lockerbie peaking at £1380.  Steers peaked at £1640 for a Charolais cross from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth.  Beef Shorthorn crosses from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton to £1620, best Limousin crosses to £1540 from Messrs Magnay, Greenwrae, Gretna and to £1530 for the best two from Messrs Hunter, The Steel Farm, Hexham.  Herefords from the Stormont, Gretna sold to £1540 also and British Blues to £1450 from Messrs Errington, Annfield, Cockermouth and two of them.  Aberdeen Angus and Friesians from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton sold to top of £1410 and £1315.

SUCKLED CALVES: A good entry of 306 Suckled Calves were forward with a large ring side of buyers ensuring a great trade.  Messrs Dent, Beamwham, 7 month old Limousin x calves topped at £1180 (x2) £1120 (x2) for bullocks and £1050 for a Limousin heifer.  Messrs Cowan, Shaftoe Moor Farm, sold a Limousin bullock for £1110.  Messrs Furlong & Co, Ridley Farm, run of suckled calves topped at £1100 for a 9 month old Limousin x bullock and £960 for an 8 month old Charolais x heifer.  Messrs Aitchison, Douglas Square topped at £1090 for Limousin x bullock and £960 for a 7 month old Limousin x heifer.  Crowhall Farms run of suckled calves topped at £1045 for 7 month old Limousin x bullocks and £1040 for Angus Bullock.  Messrs Lamb, High Troweir Farm, topped at £1040 for a 7 month old Limousin x bullock.  Messrs Watson, Millrigg topped at £1030 for an 8 month old Limousin x bullock and £1000 and £990 for 8 month old heifers.

WEANED CATTLE: All types of bulls dearer on the week with an extremely healthy ringside of buyers.  Top price was for a good Limousin from Messrs Mattinson, & Son, Burthwaite selling to £1300.  British Blue bulls topped at £1010 from Messrs Bewley, Broadlea of Robgill and Charolais to £950 from Messrs Ackerley, Milton Mains.  Simmental bulls also topped at £950 again from Messrs Bewley.  Black and white bulls looked a lot better trade with the majority making between £400 and £500 and remained dear throughout the weanling section. Norwegian Reds to £580 from Messrs Bainbridge and Friesians to £600 from Messrs Wilson, Aldoth.  Charolais bullocks sold to £1220 from Messrs Coulthard, Laversdale.  Bullocks sold to £1120 from Messrs Martin, Hesleywell.  Limousin heifers sold to £1090 from Messrs Wilson, Charlesfield.
