On Wednesday 24th November Harrison & Hetherington had 1070 forward cattle at their weekly sale comprising of an entry of 412 Store Cattle, 119 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 349 Calves and 190 dairy cattle from Aytonian Dispersal sale on behalf of Messrs H S Petch & Sons, Whitegate Farm, Cleveland.

STORE CATTLE – A smaller entry of only 400 store cattle were forward at Borderway weekly sale whereby a lesser quality and strength were forward on the week nevertheless a booming trade was achieved throughout the sale.  100 lots of cattle sold in excess of £1200 to a days top of £1780 for a Limousin cross steers from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, others to £1670 and £1650 from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith.  These same vendors also sold the top British Blue cross to £1600 and went home with the days top overall average of £1527.50 for their run of 8.  Heifers saw a day’s top of £1520 from Messrs Oliver, Cawfields, Haltwhistle.  £1490 for Charolais crosses from Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle and £1460 for a British Blue from Messrs Robinson, Rowell Farm, Milnthorpe.  Black and white steers saw a day’s overall top of £1430 for one from Messrs Mason,  Bank Farm, Penrith.  All prospective vendors should take advantage of the fantastic trade here at Borderway.

WEANED CATTLE: Weaned cattle saw a smaller number forward with quality selling very well but dairy bred animals saw a less demand.  The bull trade was much sharper on the week with bulls being very well bid for with a top price being achieved by Messrs Hamilton, Derrie Farm, Port William topping the bulls at £1240 with another selling for £1230.  Young shapely bulls also proved much better to sell with a pen of young Limousin bulls from Messrs Illingworth, Howgillside selling for £1050.  Suckled type weaners were good trade and would be £50 - £80 dearer on the week with Messrs Park, Wetheral Shield selling a run of Limousin x sucklers 4-7 month old for £835 and £800.  Plenty of customers for smaller dairy bred cattle but trade slightly down on the week.
