Goddess Tops For Wreaywood at £2550
Over 350 dairy cattle filled the Borderway Sale Centre for the December sale with a super group of freshly calved cows and heifers on offer. Holstein, Ayrshire, British Friesian and Jersey Cross cattle sold with trade topping at £2550 with 66 animals selling for or more than £2000. The average for 141 Holstein heifers was up on the month to average £1935 with Holstein cows averaging £1954 with 75 buyers recorded from England, Scotland and Wales.
Topping the trade at £2550 was an outstanding cow consigned by the Wreaywood Holstein herd. Wreaywood Appleman Goddess Red was sired by Wyndford Appleman Red and was giving 49kgs in her second lactation. 15 cows and heifers from this herd sold to average £2028.
The Sandyknowe herd owned by the Stewart family from near Kelso sold 31 heifers as part of their dispersal and sold the top four prices at £2500, £2450 and two at £2400. This impressive group of heifers with some Jersey cross included averaged £1780.
Balcurvie Holstein sold a cracking group of 25 very milky heifers to average £2014 topping at £2350 for Balcurvie Keegan Enid sired by Gerrard Keegan.
British Friesian trade remained strong with a small select group averaging £1714 to top at £2200 for Nerewater Aldsmudge consigned by Richard Bell from near Wigton.
In-Calf heifers remain excellent value for money with many selling well below their true value. Holstein In-Calf heifers averaged £1445 and topped at £1680 for a King Doc heifer consigned by D&L Wilson from Petteril Farm.
