Angus Fever Sale

An incredible trade was realised at the inaugural Angus Fever Sale in Carlisle. 20 lots sold to
average a whopping £7,806.75 and top at 29,000gns. Lots sold to homes across the UK from
as far north as Orkney and from as south as Herefordshire. Clearance was 95%. The sale was
managed by Dowbiggin Marketing in partnership with Harrison & Hetherington.

Topping the sale was Retties Lady Ruth W148 from Jamie Rettie. A daughter of Rawburn
Transformer and a direct daughter of the renowned Wall Lady Ruth E397, she was the first
Retties Lady Ruth to ever be offered for auction. She was also Reserve Overall Champion at
the Aberdeen Angus Winter National and went on to win Senior Aberdeen Angus Champion
and Senior Native Interbreed Champion at Stars of the Future. She was knocked down to
Brailes Livestock, Glouctershire for 29,000gns (£30,450).

The second highest price of the day was paid for Gordon Rosebud V457 from the Trustees of
the Late Gordon Brooke. Rosebud V457 is the only daughter of Musgrave Sky High and
Cudlobe Rosebud 99W registered in the UK herdbook. With a full brother retained at
Rawburn, she carries fantastic performance figures including a +1.5 for IMF – one of the
highest females in the UK. Scanned in-calf to Nichols Expectation, she sold for 13,000gns
(£13,650) to J & E Logan, Galawater Aberdeen Angus, Galashiels, Scotland.

The next highest price was paid for Rawburn Elegy V876 from John Elliot Esq. A daughter of
feed efficiency giant Nichols Expectation C370, she was his first daughter ever offered for
sale at public auction. She is one of the highest indexed females to ever sell in the UK with a
Terminal Index of +64 and Self Replacing Index of +80. Scanned safely in-calf to Rawburn
Jumbo T627, she realised 11,000gns (£11,550) and sold to Firm of G Gray, Ettrick Aberdeen
Aberdeen Angus, Selkirk, Scotland.

The lead off lot from Mrs Catherine McLaren was 2013-born Netherton Blackbird N779. This
Ranui W Impact 672 daughter has been part of the Netherton donor team for a number of
years and has had embryos sold to Rawburn and for export globally. She is also a daughter
of former Summer and Winter National Champion Female Netherton Blackbird K544.
Scanned back in calf to HW Evander S051 she sold for 9,000gns (£9,450) to Vaughan Farms
Ltd, Leominster, Herefordshire.

Blackbird’s May 2021 bull calf Netherton Black Rain X970 sold immediately after her. Sired
by feed efficiency sire Rawburn Bannockburn and carrying 14 traits in the Top 30% of the
breed, he was knocked down to Genus Breeding for 6,500gns (£6,825).

Also realising the 9,000gns was Idvies Pinky Petal V866 from Messrs F J Fraser & Son of
Idvies Aberdeen Angus. Sired by the 15,000gns Thrunton Panther and out of a daughter of
the £30,000 Rawburn Rommel, she shares the same maternal granddam as Idvies Pink
Peugeot. Scanned safely in-calf to former Stirling Champion Idvies Ferrari she was sold for
9,000gns (£9,450) to B & I Mitchell, Glasgow, Scotland.

Andrew Hodge Esq sold his March 2019 born Rulesmains Priceless V183 and her heifer calf
Rulesmains Priceless X564. Having already been crowned Reserve Female Champion at the
Aberdeen Angus Summer National 2021 she went on to take a red rosette at the Winter

National at Expo. With several EBVs and breed indexes in the Top 10% of the breed, she was
scanned safely back in calf to 15,000gns Blelack Lord Heartford. The pair sold for 8,000gns
(£8,400) to R Mawer, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

Also reaching the 8,000gns mark was the second entry from the Gordon Brooke Estate.
Gordon Polestar V500 was a direct granddaughter of the original Belhaven Pole Star H070
that has had four sons average over £15,000. Her dam is a daughter of Rawburn Black Hawk
and her sire is Rawburn Joe Eric S249. She sold to Brotherton Estates Ltd, Aberdeen for
8,000gns (£8,400).

Rulesmains also consigned a ‘Pick of the Heifers’ Lot of two twin heifers from their Jan Erica
line. Rulesmains Jan Erica W328 and Rulesmains Jan Erica W329 were sired by Rawburn
Braw Lad and out of a daughter of Blelack Lord Herbert, both twins were weaned at 9
months of age both weighing over 400kg each. Scanned safely in-calf to Rulesmains Black
Royce, Brotherton Estates Ltd claimed the final bid at 6,000ngns (£6,300) and chose Jan
Erica W329 as their pick.

Next highest price was for Retties Eveline X168. Consigned by Messrs R & C Rettie, this
heifer had already been crowned Reserve Champion Heifer Calf at the Winter National and
Junior Champion Female at Stars of the Future. One of the first daughters of Retties Lark
Royal to be sold from the herd, she was sold for 5,500 gns (£5,775) to R Mawer, Woodhall
Spa, Lincolnshire.

A total of four lots hit the 5,000gns (£5,250) mark on sale day, starting with a cow/calf pair
from Neil A Wattie Esq. Tonley Equidora P101 is a daughter of Blelack Evor and has already
produced sons working in pedigree herds. Scanned in-calf to the newest sire at Tonley,
Duncanziemere Jetstream, she sold with her Tonley Jester Eric sired heifer calf for 5,000gns
(£5,250) to I Tennant, Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Next at the same money were two heifers from the Duncanziemere herd of A Clark & Sons.
In-calf heifer Duncanziemere Edwina W367 was the first daughter of 13,000gns
Auchincrieve Exodus to ever sell from the herd and was also out of a Auldhouseburn Karlos
daughter. Her stable mate Duncanziemere Jody W394 also made the same money. This
maiden heifer was the first daughter of Ribble Bowness to be offered for sale and is from
the same cow family that has produced two Royal Highland Champions and has bred bulls to
15,000gns. Both heifers sold for 5,000gns (£5,250) each to Messrs Watt, Swordale Aberdeen
Angus, Sutherland, Scotland.

The final female to realise 5,000gns (£5,250) was Lakewood Duchess W302 from Lakewood
Stud of Martin Whiting. This daughter of Rawburn Makka Pakka had some of the strongest
EBVs in the sale including Top 1% for Carcass Weight, Eye Muscle and Retail Beef and Top
2% for all growth rates. She sold to Richard Morgan, Craven Arms, Shropshire.

Brailes Livestock also offered first-time calver Brailes Miss Ellie U306. Out of a Miss Essence
female from the Rawburn herd and sired by Gretnahouse Blackpot, she carried high
performance figures for milk and growth and was scanned back in calf to Retties JFK. She

sold for 4,800gns (£5,040) to Stephen Hornby, Stranraer, Scotland. Her heifer calf Brailes
Miss Emily X157 has been retained by Brailes Livestock.

Also selling for 4,800gns (£5,040) was Crook Hill Madame Bishampton W039. Sired by
Rawburn Boss Hogg and out of a Rawburn Edge daughter, she goes back to a Miss
Bishampton from the Liley herd. She claimed Reserve Junior Female Champion at the
Summer National and claimed a first prize at the Winter National too. With 12 EBVs in the
Top 10% of the breed and scanned in-calf to Quaker Hill Dead Center, she sold to B & I
Mitchell, Glasgow, Scotland.

Weeton Blackbird W106 was the last female offered from Brailes Livestock. Out of the same
cow as the 2021 Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire Overall Aberdeen Angus Champion, she
is sired by Haymount War Smith. Her dam sold to the Saville herd in the Weeton Dispersal,
and her brother sold to Newcairnie in the Blelack Dispersal. She sold for 4,200gns (£4,410)
to Brotherton Estates Ltd, Aberdeen.

The last heifer offered from Messrs R & C Rettie was the youngest heifer in the sale, Retties
Pam X172. Another daughter of Retties Lark Royal and a direct descendent of the 21,000gns
Halbeath Pam J377, her maternal brother was the Yearling Bull Champion at the 2021
Summer National. She sold for 4,000gns (£4,200) J & J Smith, Holm, Orkney.

Owen Tunney Esq offered January 2021 born Morpheus Rosebud X086. Sired by the
$200,000 HF Alcatraz 60F and out of Morpheus Rosebud S028 who has already produced
two sons working in pedigree herds. Her grandam Elliot Rosebud H847 produced daughters
to 10,000gns. She sold to E M Campbell, Fort William for 3,000gns (£3,150).

Messrs Fraser offered a young heifer in the form of Idvies Pinky Plum W952. This March
2020 heifer was sired by Idvies Pink Peugeot, making her a granddaughter of the 12,000gns
Instack Ely. She is out of a daughter of Shadwell Black Broughton – former Royal Highland
Supreme Champion and Champion at the 2015 Summer National. She sold for 2,900gns
(£3,045) to James Buchanan, Merseyside.
