On Wednesday 15th December Harrison & Hetherington had 1000 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of an entry of 401 Store Cattle, 164 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings, 235 calves and over 200 dairy cattle from the Middle Farm Dispersal Sale.

STORE CATTLE – As we move ever closer to Christmas most companies ease off but not Harrison & Hetherington as they step on even harder selling a little over 1000 head of cattle. With 401 store cattle forward vendors earned themselves a fantastic day out with cattle seen to peak at £1680 twice. Firstly, for a Limousin cross steer from weekly supporters of the auction Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Other noted vendors Messrs Slack, Cockleybank, Brampton showed a weekly consignment of 50 and saw this run peak at £1650 for a British Blue cross. Messrs Hall, West End, Carlisle sold their best to £1430 for an Aberdeen Angus and the wind blew from the West securing Messrs West of Whin Bank, Whitehaven a top of £1400 for Charolais crosses. Heifers saw a day’s joint top of £1680 for a Limousin cross heifer once again from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth. Messrs Gillespie, High Stand, Carlisle sold their best to £1490 once again for Charolais crosses. Limousin crosses from Messrs Hall, Wets End peaked at £1430 and others to £1400 from Messrs West, Whin Bank, Whitehaven. Messrs Morton, Bank Farm, Penrith sold British Blue cross heifers to £1380 and £1350

WEANED CATTLE: A larger entry of weaned cattle forward at Carlisle on Wednesday with a very mixed show throughout but all qualities very well bid for. Top price of the day was secured twice, firstly by Messrs Dixon, Chirdon, Tarset, Hexham for a 12-month-old Simmental x heifer and secondly another Simmental x heifer from Messrs Benn & McGuckin, Lochridgehill Farm, Dunlop, Kilmarnock both these achieved £1100. A small show of bulls forward but quality was very keenly sought after with bulls selling for £1000 firstly from Messrs Crayston, Brackenhow, Holmerook and secondly from Messrs Armstrong, Shankfieldhead.
