Carlisle & Northern Counties Suffolk Sheep Show & Sale

The Suffolk Sheep Society annual North of England Branch sale held at Harrison & Hetherington, Carlisle achieved an excellent clearance for all livestock with a 100% clearance for shearling gimmers.

The sale topped at 5000gns for a substitute entry from the Cairness flock of Mr J Douglas. This ram lambs was sired by Cairness Prince and out of a homebred daughter of €31,000 Cloontagh Chieftain, he goes back up to Aberdeen to Mr Moir.

Following at 3000gns was the Sitlow flock, with a ram lamb sired by Logiedurno Sonny Bill. This lamb joins the Jones Family, Powys.

The next also travels down to Wales to Messrs Owens, Gwynedd. The only shearling entry from the Spittal flock of Messrs Tooze. Claycrop Coloda sired by Castleisle Cobra sold for 2300gns.

The pen leader from the Beaconhill flock follows next at 1900gns from AJ & WJ Reed. A Brijon Magician son who also won 1st prize shearling ram in the pre sale show was purchased by Messrs Towers & Sons, Lancashire.

In the female section, the sale topper came from the Champion Female and Reserve Overall Champion out of the Kexbeck pen. Pamela Lupton’s only entry forward is by Rhaeadr Jet Set and out of a hombres Rhaeadr Reggae I daughter. She sold to 1600gns and joins the Rhaeadr flock of Myfyr Evans.

Next up at 1100gns was the second prize gimmer and only entry from the Strathview flock of James Scott. She is sired by Spittal XL and out of a Cairness Stylistic daughter and goes to Messrs cross, Lancashire.
