Kirkby Stephen Prime Sheep Sale

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their fortnightly sale of prime sheep on Tuesday night, when 3,708 sheep were forward consisting of 2936 prime lambs and 772 cast sheep.

Topping the sale at £179 were a pen of nine 44kg Beltex cross lambs which made 406.8p/kg from Messrs Simpson, Highscale Farm, Wigglesworth.

Also topping at 415.10p/kg were a pen of ten 43kg Beltex cross lambs which sold for £178.50 also from Highscale Farm, with another pen if nine 42kg lambs making £172 (409.5p/kg) also from this home.

The consignment of 54 lambs from Highscale Farm sold to average 43.5kg £171.41 (393.8p/kg)
Texel cross lambs topped at £176.50 for a 60kg lamb from Messrs Reed, Lands Farm, Bishop Auckland.
Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm sold a pen of 42kg Beltex cross lambs to make £169 (402.4p/kg).
Messrs Platt made the journey up from Cheshire and went home well rewarded selling a pen of thirty 40kg Beltex cross lambs to make £160.50 (401.3p/kg) this consisting of 220 well bred lambs sold to average 41.5kg £153.08 (369p/kg)
Messrs Elliot, Espland House, Penrith sold a pen of 45kg lambs to make £172.50.
Messrs Richardson, Low Garth sold a pen of twenty-six 43kg Texel cross Mule lambs to make £133.50 (310.5p/kg).
Mule lambs topped at £147 for a pen of ten 55kg lambs from Messrs Smith, Kelmore Hill Farm, Workington.
Messrs Lawson, Hundith House, Wigton sold a pen of twelve Mules weighing 53kg to make £140.50.
Mules also topped at 278.4p/kg for a pen of twenty 44kg lambs which made £122.50 from Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, Great Asby.
Messrs Raine & Davidson, Thorney Gale sold a pen of twenty-four 46kg Mules to make £124.50 (270.7p/kg)
Both Messrs Wills, Fawcett Park Farm and Messrs Fairburn, Marriforth sold pens of 20 and 21 Mules to make £134.
Swaledale lambs topped at 282.1p/kg for a pen of sixteen 39kg which made £110 from Messrs Hunter & Whitehead, Richmond.
Messrs Rutter, Green Gill Farm, Barnard Castle sold a pen of twenty-one 40kg Swaledale lambs to make £100.50 (251.3p/kg).

On a week when other platforms of marketing prime sheep reduced their prices substantially the live market here at Kirkby Stephen once again massively exceeded all expectations with an SQQ average of 310.16p/kg and an overall sale average of 302.22p/kg and £130.76 per head for 2936 lambs being achieved!

47 pens and 206 lambs sold between £160-£179
100 pens and 488 lambs sold between £150-£179
58 pens and 435 lambs sold between 350-415p/kg
765 Beltex cross lambs sold to average £150.09 & 358p/kg

Cast sheep sold to a flying trade for all classes once again topping at £222 for a Texel cross ewe from Messrs Reed, Lands Farm, Bishop Auckland.
English Mule ewes topped at £126.50 from Messrs Sedgley, Low Bank House, Barbon.
Messrs Clarke, Stripes Farm sold a pen of thirteen English Mule ewes to make £125.
All classes of prime lambs and cast sheep are required for next Tuesdays sale which is to be as normal.
