Kirkby Stephen Prize Show & Sale of Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen Mart held their opening show and sale of store cattle when 429 head were on offer.

Topping the sale at £2450 was the overall champion beast a 18 month old Limousin heifer from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside which sold to Messrs Cooper, Troughton Hall, Broughton in Furness.

Farther and daughter team Michael and Ellie Wynne, Derbyshire able carried out the judging of the pre sale show and awarded the reserve championship to a 17month old Limousin cross steer which sold for £1715 and was consigned by Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm selling to D. Barker, Scarborough.

Steers topped at £1745 for another Limousin cross from Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm and bought by D. Barker.

Heifers also sold to £1800 for a Limousin cross from Terrys Farm selling to Messrs Dandie, Broxburn.

The consignment of 20 cattle sold to average a whopping £1696.

Heifers averaged £1205.04

Steers average £1193.31

A packed ringside of over 50 active buyers were in attendance ensuring all classes of store cattle can be sold to great premiums here at Kirkby Stephen.

All types of store cattle were literally a flying trade and the dearest seen for some time.

Well bred young cattle were a fantastic trade regularly selling between £1200-£1400.

Messrs Anderson, Leyburn sold 11 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1405.

Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill, Barras sold 11 month old Limousin cross heifers to make £1315 with 11 month old Limousin cross steers making £1300 also from this home.

Messrs Boyren, Hill Park Farm, Ulverston sold 8 month old Limousin cross steers to make £1255.

Messrs Maughan, Asby Mill sold 8 month old British Blue cross steers to make £1225 and £1205.
