ADORABLE MAID TOPS FOR BERRYHOLME
The opening Border & Lakeland sale of 2022 was a credit to all the consignors involved with a high standard on offer from start to finish. Several elite pedigrees featured in this special catalogue and are all included in the top prices. Demand for dairy stock continues to be strong as farmgate milk price continues to improve across the UK and Europe. The overall average settled at £2165 with the top price heifer selling for 2,800gns; with 57 animals sold for or more than £2000.
Dugdale Nutrition sponsored the show and Brian Harrison from Low House Farm judged the pre-sale classes. The Overall Champion topped the cow trade at 2,600gns and was purchased by the judge. Espland Takeoff Sadie was consigned by the Cannon family near Appleby, who are dispersing their herd as they calve. This is the sixth consecutive month the Espland herd has won the Overall Championship at the Border & Lakeland sale. Another eight cows and heifers from this home sold to average almost £2100.

Mr Harrison selected Kepculloch Lambda Kimo as his 1st place Heifer and Reserve Champion, she was consigned by Robert Stell from near Glasgow and sold for 2,400gns to Mr Brown from Catcraig Farm in Ayrshire. She was sired by Lambda and bred from an Excellent 93 dam sired by Larcrest Camelot that was shown at the last Agriscot Show in 2019. Another 3 heifers from the Kepculloch herd sold to average £2345.
Topping the trade at 2,800gns was Berryholme Adorable Maid consigned by the Wright family. She was sired by Stantons Adorable and is the potential fourth generation of animals to classify either Excellent or Very Good. She had an udder that flirted with perfection and was purchased by My Royall from Staffordshire.
Riverdane Holsteins from Cheshire sold two high yielding heifers both bred from impressive and highly valued cow families. Selling for 2,600gns was Riverdane Doorman Molly who was bought by William & Michael Oldfield from Gisburn. She was sired by Doorman had recently classified Very Good as a two year old, she was bred from a special line of successful show animals going back to the Excellent 96 Astre Molly that was Hon. Mention at the National Holstein Show in 2005.
The Firm of James Baillie sold four very milky heifers to average £2375 and topped at 2,500gns for Dalserf Roble Lola who was purchased by Mr Brown from Catcraig Farm in Ayrshire. She was sired by AltaRoble and was producing 35kgs.
Newtonmoss Silvio Lulu sold for 2,500gns to the Hastwell family from near Kirby Stephen. She was consigned by the Fisher family and will complete twelve generations of Excellent or Very Good cows when she is classified later on this year. Her grand dam is an Excellent 93 Picston Shottle cow that produced over 90 lifetime with the foundation cow in the pedigree being one of Triple Threat greatest daughters, A Tora Triple Threat Lulu EX96.
Phil Potts and Craig Brough sold Potts Unix Esmeralda for 2,500gns to the Dixon family from Beech House farm. She had a super cool pedigree being an Unix from a Doorman from a Goldwyn from a Shottle. Her Doorman dam was a member of the Dutch Team that represented Holland at the last European Holstein Show in Belgium.
