On Wednesday 19th January Harrison & Hetherington had 1420 cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 572 Store Cattle, 408 store bulls and weanlings, 352 calves and 88 Dairy cattle in the monthly Border & Lakeland Sale.
STORE CATTLE – Another large entry of 572 store cattle saw competitive bidding from a large company of buyers, meated cattle and plain sorts in particular looked sharp throughout.
Bullocks sold to £1660 for a tremendous Charolais bullocks from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Dearham. Messrs Moffat, Stone House, Gretna lead the heifers selling Limousin crosses to £1600. Native cattle peaked at £1560 for a Belted Galloway bullock from Messrs Stamper, Dearham and to £1470 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus heifers from the same home. Dairy bullocks to £1200 from Messrs Hebson, Chapel Farm, Carlisle.

WEANED CATTLE: Once again Ring 4 was buzzing with weaned cattle and young bulls. Top quality bulls once again selling extremely well. Top price was a Limousin cross bull from Messrs Reid, Kirkburn Farm, Lockerbie selling at £1270.
The weaned cattle also saw a very strong trade with a large number of suckler bred calves aged 6-10 months old forward with a very strong ringside of buyers. Messrs Clegg & Bennett, Tongue House topped the steer section at £1180 with a Limousin x bullock at 8 months of age with another selling at £1130. Also topping the heifers was a British Blue from Messrs Palmer, Green Syke Farm, Lamplugh at £1100.
