A Fitting Tribute to Gordon
The Borderway Sale Centre was full to capacity for the dispersal sale of the Irthingend Pedigree Holstein herd that included the complete milking portion and all of the in calf heifers. Gordon Brown who had expertly developed the herd sadly passed away in December following a battle with cancer. This brings to an end a rich history at Lane End Farm where dairy cows have been milked since 1910. The Brown family would like to pass on their sincere gratitude and thanks to everyone who has helped and supported them over the past weeks and months and hope the cows go on and do well in their new homes.
The undoubted quality on offer attracted buyers from across the UK with the trade topping at 3,400gns with the milking heifers averaging almost £2100; no less than 91 animals sold for or more than £2000.
Topping the sale at 3,400gns was Irthingend Harper Pearl, a recently cow in her second lactation giving 41kgs and sired by Maplehurst Eubank. She was purchased by the Graham family from Stubbyknowe Farm near Gretna.
Irthingend Giant Lily sold for 2,800gns to the Robinsons near Hexham, she was sired by De-Su Hartley and was giving 66kgs.
