On Wednesday 2nd February Harrison & Hetherington had 1187cattle forward at their weekly sale comprising of 488 Store Cattle, 199 store bulls and weanlings, 243 calves and 257 Dairy cattle in the monthly Borderway Dairy Day.
STORE CATTLE – At the weekly sale 488 Store cattle were forward. All classes of cattle were a true joy to sell with the prices achieved being well a head of what has been seen of late, this saw the bullocks average a fabulous £1217.58 and heifers £1154.71 to give an overall average of £1186.57 in Borderway which was achieved with cattle from all ends of the spectrum.
Ladies led the way this week with a quartet of vendors seeing £1600 for heifers. Leading this at £1640 was Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth, Messrs Stagg, Longrow, Canonbie following closely at £1630. Dennis Bowman, Croft House, Penrith at £1610 and finally a cracking pair of young heifers from first time vendor Messrs Gammie, Dumforber, Kincardinshire.
Bullocks topped at £1570, firstly from Messrs Batey, High Knells Carlisle with a Blonde and secondly from Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with a Limousin. Native cattle sold to £1490 for dairy bred Aberdeen Angus x bullocks from Messrs Harper, West House, Cockermouth. Friesians to £1230 from Messrs Mason, Bank Farm, Penrith.

WEANED CATTLE: Bulls and weaned cattle continue to please sellers with a mixed show of cattle met with increased interest. A packed ring side saw bulls on fire with Charolais and Limousins topping at £1190 both from Messrs Green, The Craggs. Messrs Wigham, Hargill House sold Limousin bulls to £1130, £1100 and £1070 with the same good home selling British Blues to £1000. Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at £1080 from Messrs Johnston, Orton Hall.
Bullocks and heifers were also a tremendous trade. Montbelairde bullocks were up to £1100 from Messrs Beaty, Stonewalls and the same home had Limousin bullocks at £1030. Hereford bullocks to £950 from Messrs Fish, Crossrigg. More cattle are expected next week in Ring 4.
